Dear Colleagues,
We are very pleased to invite you to the 24th Congress of the European Association of Hospital Managers to take place on 27 and 28 September 2012, in Athens (Greece).
The 24th Congress with have the general title Innovative Hospital Manager and the objective is to carry out a scientific/ professional event that will exceed the limits of a congress with a single agenda item. We will attempt to present a global analysis of the current financial, administrative and technological environment in the healthcare sector and, especially, of the challenges that hospital managers and top executives are called to adequately respond to.
The financial crisis, in conjunction with the necessary structural changes in the healthcare systems, turn the improvement of the hospital governance into a top priority. The hospital manager and his/her partners are called to work, in a creative way, inside a complex, multi-professional environment, with limited financing that must be used in the best possible way to the benefit of the patients.
Therefore, the first main objective of the 24th Congress is to highlight the professional identity of the hospital manager, to underline his/her role, the necessary extent of his/her competences and the responsibility (s)he undertakes relating to the effective operation of a modern hospital. Moreover, the prerequisite education, training and experience of the executives assuming such a difficult task must be described.
The second main objective of the Congress is related to the fact that the hospital manager is called to provide services within a constantly changing technological environment that imposes continuous expansion of his/her knowledge and capacity to take innovative, quality and efficient professional action.
IT applications rapidly spread in the healthcare sector and, especially, in hospitals, providing abundant information that requires new, advanced management practices in order to be exploited.
Biomedical technique develops at an impressive pace constantly revealing innovative and alternative solutions in the diagnostic and treatment sectors. At the same time, though, financial assessment and cost containment issues arise, so that the final result is positive both for hospitals and for patients.
It is also obvious that future hospitals will be different from those that we traditionally know from a constructional, organizational and operational aspect. The new hospitals will be adapted to the modern environmental, energy and design options, the different social needs and the new forms of healthcare distribution. Hospital managers must be aware of all data in order to be able to actively and successfully participate in the relevant decision-taking.
